A very short TR this week. I only had one day to climb this weekend, as my sister had a significant birthday and I felt that in order to not totally deplete my family karma points, I had to attend. So Erin and I did a day trip to Sugarloaf. Luckily it was her turn to drive, as I had a cold and didn't feel all that well. We didn't do a huge amount of stuff: we warmed up on The Fang (5.9), which has a fairly challenging move on it for a 5.9. The rest is very fun though, with a cool little chimeny that you have to escape from before your head gets stuck. We then did a bunch of climbs on the face below it, which were partly bolted. I don't believe that the 10aR there is actually 10a, at least not the way we did it following the incipient seam in front of the tree. Felt more like a 12. Lots of fun knob moves once you get above that section though. We finished off the day on Dominion, and once again stared in awe at Grand Illusion. Earlier in the day, upon seeing the picture of Suzuki climbing it in the guide book, Erin had said "that doesn't look so hard!" She didn't step up to the plate and give it a go when we got there though, maybe because it was getting to be late in the day....

And this time, on the way back through Placerville, we didn't stop at Z-Pie, but instead tried out the Golden Dragon Chinese restaurant. Their claims of "best pot stickers in the USA!" are grossly exagerated, but the food in general is decent.

   Elsewhere in CA:
Lynsey and Vivian completed the West Face of the Leaning
   Tower.
Jack and Brian completed the West Face of El Cap.
Rob and Dan, um, got to the top of the Chouinard-Herbert on
   The Sentinel.
Vivian's tent failed a crucial but unscheduled stress test.

That would be the often overlooked but quintessential Cell
   Phone Catch and Toss test.

I might have said it doesn't look _that_ hard, in response
to hearing it's grade. Anyway, the guide book picture
doesn't show how over hanging it is -- it looks harder in
   person.
